Last night the BMI Songwriters Series was an incredible night of storytelling and acoustic performances from the BIGGEST names in Nashville.  Detroit was lucky to have this intimate evening with Wendell Mobley, Casey Beathard, Michael Ray and Joe Nichols.  We got to hear first hand the stories behind the hit records they wrote for Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, and Big & Rich to name a few.  We captured a little of show in a Facebook live video.

Another amazing moment happened last night for a young girl in the audience who brought her guitar to Hockeytown Cafe in hopes to get an autograph from Michael Ray.  Erica Mourad not only got her autograph and photo with Michael Ray, but the VP of Warner Brothers, Adrian Michaels, was there and gave Erica the surprise of her life!!  I was standing right there when it all went down.

He approached the teenager and said, “So you’re a singer, songwriter,”  to which Erica replied, “yes.”  Michaels said to Erica, “Let’s get you on stage.  You have one song so give me your best.”  Erica’s face just lit up and her mom was freaking out too.  This all happened in a matter of seconds.  Next thing you know Erica hits the stage and did her thing, performing Tucker Beathard’s “Rock On.”

As Erica was performing and owning the stage, Michaels from Warner Brothers was certainly impressed and told Michael Ray to invite her to open up for him next month at Coyote Joe’s.  Erica had no idea what was going on so when Michael came out on stage, he surprised Erica with this golden opportunity!

Luck is meeting opportunity and being ready for it and tonight this Lake Orion teen came prepared! Dreams do come true with WYCD!  Come out tonight for Brett Young and Jerrod Niemann! Doors open at 6;30p and show starts around 7:30p and it’s FREE!!!!!
