The geniuses on The Big Bang Theory might not have figured out time travel just yet, but that’s not going to stop fans from getting a look into the past.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spin-off focusing on the teenage years of Sheldon Cooper is in the works, though actor Jim Parsons will not appear in the series.

“Insiders describe the project as Malcolm in the Middle but with a young and potentially teenage version of Sheldon,” THR writes. “None of the Big Bang Theory cast are said to be involved in the potential prequel series outside of Parsons, who will exec produce.”

TBBT co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, as well as showrunner Steve Molaro, are said to be at the helm of the untitled project, though little else is known at this time.

Meanwhile, fans of the original show will likely be enjoying the adventures of Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, Amy and Bernadette for years to come.

“We are very confident that everyone involved wants more Big Bang past year 10 and I know Warner Bros. will make those deals,” CBS president Glenn Geller said back in August. “We’ll put it on for as long as everyone wants Big Bang on the air. I hope it lasts forever.”
