Today is the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor and I found this inspiring story to share with you.

Meet Ray Chavez, at 104 he’s the country’s oldest living Pearl Harbor veteran, and not only does he get out of bed each morning, he goes to the gym! His daughter Kathleen is his fulltime caregiver who spoke to Inside Edition about her veteran dad. She stated that he wasn’t always this motivated.

A couple of years ago, he fell and broke his arm while out walking. That “seemed to take the wind out of his sails,” she revealed. He didn’t want to walk anymore. He didn’t seem to want to do much of anything anymore.”

“I just watched him deteriorate and deteriorate. There times when I didn’t think he was going to make it through the night. One night I had to take him to the hospital,” she recalled.

Thereafter she read about a trainer in San Diego who was working with a 101- year -old women.

“So I called the guy up and said ‘How would you feel about working with a 102-year-old man?’ And he said, ‘Well, bring him on down.’’

On this special 75th anniversary, Kathleen and her dad traveled to Hawaii, thanks to the fundraising given by his community. Chavez will have the chance to meet other veterans for a reunion, where he will be honored.

As far as going to the gym… Kathleen shared that he’s still going!

“He enjoys it very much,” she said. “It gets him out of bed. It gets him to be able to talk to someone else besides me.”

God Bless Ray Chavez and all of or veterans.
