The heartthrob got real.

(WYCD) The day after Brett Young announced his upcoming tour, he got real at MusicTown Detroit about his life as a new dad.

"It's some alien stuff," he said, laughing about his new life with baby Presley Elizabeth. From scary episodes to the life-changing moment he saw his daughter's birth, every day has been a new revelation.

Still, he says he's more confused about parenthood than he was before his baby girl was born two weeks and two days ago.

"The drive home from the hospital, the first time you put her in a car seat and you're responsible for safely driving her home ... The nurse button doesn't work anymore. At home, there's no button."

If driving is scary, navigating the freeway with a new baby in a car seat is downright terrifying.

"A car seat seems so basic, it's not," said Young in an interview before he took the stage at Stars & Strings Detroit. He went on to explain the confusion of tighteners and shoulder straps and random buckles. And then looking at the backseat and trying to decipher what the baby's facial expression means.

"I've never seen that face before, is something wrong? Am I a crazy parent? There's a lot of neuroses," he said.

"I just hope I'm never hovering over my 18-year-old, I hope that's not true, but I guess we'll see."

Amid all the fear and confusion, there's one thing he wouldn't change about parenthood so far. It involves ignoring the advice of other new dads.

Everyone told him not to watch the birth of his daughter. He ignored that advice and says he's glad he did.

"I watched," he said. "I'm actually so glad I did. I never experienced anything like it."

Another new experience: Young is embarking on a headlining tour in 2020 that's meant to be "personal and reflective." The Chapters Tour will visit 20 cities across the U.S. and Canada starting in the first half of 2020.

In a press release, Young promised the tour will include "surprises."
